Organizations have become more complex, and so have the tasks and responsibilities of supervisors and non-executive directors. Procedures have been adapted, and laws and regulations tightened up. As a supervisor, your behavior is under intense scrutiny. The Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program aims to improve your qualities as a non-executive director or supervisor. In addition to this program, we also offer a wide range of other management and supervision programs.

Participant profile for the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program 

The Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program is open to professionals with at least one or two years of experience in one or more positions as non-executive directors and/or supervisor. Professionals with several years of relevant experience as board member (in the profit and non-profit sector) are also welcome to participate. Participants may include: C-suite executives and managers

Admission requirements

We aim for the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program to have a varied mix of participants from different fields, both from the profit and non-profit sector. For this reason, we apply admission requirements. This enables us to ensure the highest quality education. We expect participants to have:

  • a completed higher professional or university degree
  • strategic responsibility as a director, non-executive director or supervisor
  • at least 15 years’ work experience, including at least two years at boardroom level

Hard and soft controls

The aim of the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program is to help you stay ahead of the curve of new developments, rather than playing catch-up. You will be taught by top professors and experts in the field who know everything about current legislation and regulations and how to create the right dynamics in the boardroom. To this end, we will focus on both hard and soft controls.

Contents of the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program

The Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program provides both academic frameworks and a peer learning environment that will enable you to expand your vision through discussions and assignments. Reflection on your organization’s practices as well as your behavior is a common theme throughout the program.

The modules are structured around four themes, with an overall focus on boardroom dynamics. The effectiveness of boards depends to a large extent on boardroom dynamics, which is why this specific topic is covered in every module. You will learn to understand, recognize and improve boardroom dynamics.

Key basic knowledge is provided in advance through e-learnings and articles, so that there is enough time in the master classes for interaction and in-depth analysis and discussions. The CSP consists of four modules and three peer learning sessions.

Module 1: Introduction

  • You are introduced to the concept of long-term value creation and learn how to implement it in the boardroom.
  • You learn what the building blocks of high-performing boards are.
  • You are introduced to the theory behind boardroom dynamics and learn how to put it into practice.
  • You learn more about the importance of innovation and new boardroom business models.

Module 2: Boardroom dynamics and leadership

  • You take a closer look at boardroom dynamics.
  • You learn to distinguish between effective and ineffective interaction between non-executive directors and supervisors.
  • You learn about the importance of good leadership in the boardroom.
  • You are given tools to create impact in your own practice.

Module 3: Hard controls - legal and financial

  • You are introduced to the legal aspects of corporate governance.
  • You learn about relevant legislation and potential legal consequences.
  • You learn more about the role of an audit committee and its functions.

Module 4: The employer's role - remuneration, appointment and assessment

  • You are introduced to the theory, legislation and practice behind executive compensation.
  • You become familiar with appointment and evaluation processes and relevant selection criteria.
  • You learn how to apply effective forms of dialogue and questioning in your own practice.

Learning objectives of peer learning sessions

During the three peer learning sessions, you work in small groups on real-life cases and your own practice. You receive personal guidance to further explore the topics covered in the modules. The module has following learning objectives:

  • Expand your network and apply experiences of others to your own situation.
  • Explore the topics discussed in more depth and in relation to your own practice.
  • Learn how to deal with dilemmas that you may encounter in practice.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program you will receive a certificate of participation from TIAS School for Business and Society.

Costs of the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program

The costs of the Non-executive Directors and Supervisors Program are € 13500 (exempt from VAT). This includes literature and meals. The program consists of four modules and three half-day peer learning sessions.
