Attend the Premaster in Dutch or English

We offer our premaster program in both English and Dutch. In consultation with your Program Adviser, you can decide which edition suits you best to prepare for your master at TIAS.

The Dutch edition includes in-person lectures.

The English edition is fully online. Read more about the English edition here.

Participant profile

The premaster is designed for people with a higher professional degree (“HBO”) who are interested in pursuing a master's at TIAS. Completing a premaster is compulsory for this group.

In case you own a university degree (“WO”), the premaster can help you to refresh and update your academic knowledge. Voluntarily, you can decide to attend the full program or select the modules you want to update.

In certain cases, the Academic Director may decide that completion of one or more components of the premaster is required despite your university degree.

This program is not intended for students of our Full-time Master in Management. For more information about the premaster associated with this study program, please go here.

What can a premaster do for you?

The premaster is intended to ensure that Executive Master participants are on equal footing in terms of basic academic knowledge and skills at the start of the program. This lays the foundation for a successful completion of the master's degree. On completing your premaster program, you will receive a certificate of participation.

TIAS premaster: strong and unique in design

The TIAS Premaster gives access to the master programs of TIAS. As many of our participants are doing their master's part-time alongside their normal work, TIAS premasters are designed to be completed in a relatively short period of time.

The online learning environment we use enables you to seamlessly integrate pre-master preparation into your schedule. This allows you to begin right after registering, ensuring you have ample time to prepare for the lectures.

As a result, the TIAS pre-master is a clear and valuable investment in both time and money.

The premaster consists of three different modules:

The premaster program is structured into three blocks of three weeks each, with a minimum total duration of 9 weeks. During the first 3 weeks, you prepare online for the lectures. This is followed by a 3-week block with 3 modules, where you attend lectures for 2 half-days per module (1 day in-person & 2 days online). In the final 3 weeks, the focus is on assessing the knowledge acquired during the lectures.

The 3 modules covered in the premaster are:

  • Accounting and Finance: This module covers basic academic and analytical knowledge of accounting (external financial reporting) and finance (corporate finance).
  • Quantitative Methods: This module provides an understanding of the quantitative methods commonly used in academic literature.
  • Academic Reading and Writing: This module focuses on looking up, finding, reading, evaluating, and integrating scientific literature into a short self-written academic paper.

Your studyplan

Your Program Adviser is happy to help you draw up a study plan based on your learning objectives. This plan will be custom designed in consultation with the Academic Director and consider your educational background, intended master and relevant work experience.
