Successful start of TIAS' Board and Supervisors Program
On Thursday, November 12 the TIAS Commissarissen en Toezichthouders Programma (Board and Supervisors Program) kicked off. The interest in this program is very high. TIAS has a waiting list for this program. Therefore, there will be an extra intake period in the spring of 2016.
This Dutch-language program is special because supervisors and non-executive directors will follow the program together. "Both the profit and the non-profit sectors can learn a lot from the program. Only when you compare different perspectives and thoughts can you move forward yourself," said Mijntje Lückerath-Rovers (Professor of Corporate Governance and one of the program's academic directors) in early October about the program. The program's academic directors come from different (academic) backgrounds. The program's academic directors are, in addition to Professor Lückerath-Rovers, Edith Hooge (Professor of Boards and Governance in Education) and Michiel Boersma (Distinguished Professor of Corporate Governance).
"If you do not consciously look for other perspectives and remain isolated, you will not move forward. Many companies that have gone bankrupt could have survived if, for example, they had tried to learn more from social organizations. If they had looked at multiple stakeholders, they would have made other choices. We all know examples of things going wrong in the corporate sector."
This course is completely focused on the current challenges facing the board and the supervisors. Not only the hard side of organizations (finance, risks, and scenario planning) is discussed during the course, much attention is also paid to soft controls (roles, relationships, and biases).
