Do healthcare programs produce the right professionals?
There is often a lack of mutual understanding between healthcare managers and healthcare professionals. Healthcare managers are also too conservative. Training programs should address this issue, according Nardo van der Meer, Director of HealthLAB, in Skipr.

"Healthcare directors are behind the curve in every respect. They often don't bother to see beyond their own organization. Take electronic patient files, for example. Before too long in this country we will have a lot of different systems that can't communicate with each other. That's a ridiculous situation. In the United States, hospital consortiums simply said, "it has to meet these requirements or we won't buy it."
Van der Meer thinks it is important for healthcare directors to expand their horizons beyond their immediate environment. He says it would be good for them to adopt best practices more often, even from other sectors. "They should also communicate more with people with different types of expertise, such as ICT employees or practitioners of other healthcare disciplines."
