Van Gogh Museum and TIAS now offer master classes for Chinese museum sector

Van Gogh Museum and TIAS School for Business and Society will jointly offer a master class on Modern Museum Management and on Art Finance in China (Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai). The Van Gogh Museum is also going to sponsor the Van Gogh Professorship in Art Finance. This is the first academic chair in this field in the world. The chair is held by Prof. Rachel Pownall.

Borne on the wings of the growing Chinese economy, the art and culture sector in China is expanding by about 100 museums per year. The country now has over 3,000 museums. A large number of these buildings in the middle and west of the country have remained vacant for months or are not being used due to a lack of art and expert staff. Museum Studies at Chinese universities are still in their infancy, except in the case of the University of Hong Kong. Museum employees are sent to foreign museums and universities for training.

The Van Gogh Museum and TIAS have joined forces

The Van Gogh Museum has extensive experience in the international field of museum administration. The experts of the museum will share their knowledge, expertise and skills with participants in the master class. TIAS is an academically based business school and will support practical knowledge with academic research in the field of management and business administration. Participants will receive lectures in subjects such as strategic management, marketing and financial management.TIAS and the Van Gogh Museum have been working together for several years during co-creation days that the business school organizes for specialized customers. On these days, a group of employees from an organization visit the Van Gogh Museum to explore and create various strategic scenarios there. By bringing two operations from completely different sectors together, participants are able to escape the narrow channels of everyday thinking.
