A blog post written by Alireza Karbasian from Iran | Full-time MScBA alumnus 2016-2017 | Specialization: Business Analytics
After graduating from TIAS in 2016 it was time to decide what to do next. Since I graduated I decided to take a few months off to travel the world before I would start the next best chapter in my life – work!
'As soon as I handed in my thesis, I decided that I have to go on as long as I have energy!'
How I found this job?
During the company day at TIAS special organized for MScBA students, I started to have a short interview with the Nike recruiter. During our chat I found that there is a suitable internship position at Nike available, so what better opportunity than this could there be? I applied and got the role as a Sales & Operation Planning intern. While I was an intern at Nike, I was working Cross-functional and at the end of my internship I got an offer for the Inventory & Supply Analyst role, and that’s how I landed a job at the biggest sporting goods company.
How is working at Nike?
Since I remember I have loved sports and used to do a lot of sports: from swimming up to Kickboxing, Judo and Football. Working for a company in which I can dedicate this passion with the same people is perfect.
All of us at Nike share the passion for sports and follow the same motto: “Serve the Athletes” and as Bill Bowerman said: “If you have a body, you are an athlete”.
During my internship I had a project in which I was making an Inventory model based on scenario planning. This project needed a bit of analytical knowledge which I acquired during my Bachelor studies and, of course, my Masters at TIAS which both provided good knowledge about Supply Chain and Analytics. During this project I was working with different teams in Supply Chain in order to learn more about Nike Supply Chain and Inventory. At the end, one of the managers liked my job and I got the role of Inventory & Supply Analyst which basically is the continuation of my project in way broader aspects.
My advice to you
The best advice I can give to you is to be yourself, don’t be afraid to speak up and share your point of views. Give proper time to improve your soft skills as much as you pay to improve your academic knowledge and as a Nike always says:
JUST DO IT!
