Carla I. Koen is Professor of Sustainable Innovation at TIAS School for Business and Society and Eindhoven University of Technology. She is Member of the Innovation Board of Taminco (Global Chemical company), the General Council of Antwerp Management School, STW Commissions, and of the Advisory Board of Wings for Aid. She is Canon Foundation Fellow and Director of BIS Company B.V.
Carla is professor, entrepreneur, advisor, coach, and management trainer for companies in a wide range of sectors such as Chemicals, Medical Diagnostics, Life & Material Sciences, Health-Care, etc. She works with government, large corporates as well as start-up companies.
She has directed and/or taught in executive development programs in different countries for clients such as ING, Stork, Philips, SD WORX, Hagemeyer, Maxeda, Alliander, Connexxion, Marel, Sandd.
Carla obtained two Best Teacher Awards; TIAS 2013 Executive Master and MBA Programs (the Netherlands) and Antwerp Management School 2012-2013 Master Programs (Belgium). Between 2008 and 2010, she obtained 420.000 Euro in grants for research and the support of start-ups.
She obtained a PhD and Master in International Political Economy from the University of Warwick (UK). Her PhD and Master studies focus on innovation in the German and Japanese pharmaceutical industry. Carla also holds a Master in Economics from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium). She was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Geselschaftsforschung (Cologne), Sophia University (Tokyo), and the Wissenschaftszentrum fuer Sozialforschung (Berlin).
Carla is author of a book on Comparative Management, and of several national and international publications in journals such as Organization Studies, Current Topics in Management, Management Executive, Research in International Business and Finance.
