Study trip MMO: carefully co-created
From june 28 to july 3rd another great edition of the studytrip to Portugal took place for our students in the Master of Management and Organization (MMO), edition 33. The MMO studytrip is an event carefully co-created between MMO students, the Dutch-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and a host of Lisbon-based organizations, hand-picked from the areas of industry, service, public sector, NGO and finance.
Students are given contact details of their host organization and take full responsibility for organizing an interesting daypart (2-3 hours) in cooperation with their hosts. This results is a diverse program of debates, lectures and workshops, inspired by a mix of practice-based issues and academic insights. These took place at
Heineken,
Bold Internationalt (engineering),
Infraestruturas de Portugal,
SpinWorks (drone producer), de Voedselbank and
Miele.
Apart from these participant-led activities, the group received a lecture at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG) on past and present of the Portuguese economic reality. A visit to the
Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown provided a fascinating insight into the management and organization of research excellence in the (bio)medical sciences. The trip was concluded with a reception at the Dutch Embassy, hosted by the ambassador, mr. Govert Jan Bijl de Vroe. Four Dutch expats shared their experiences of living and working in Portugal during informal small group talks with MMO students.
In all, the trip truly delivered upon its promise: to give an in-depth impression of management and organization in an international context. It provided hands-on experience in organizing through its emphasis on close co-creation, leading to a program with high relevance through student ownership of content.
