A year at TIAS: A Business School about and for Business

September 20, 2018 | 1 min read

I am so glad that I am studying at TIAS to further my education! The most important reason I chose TIAS is the fact that TIAS sets for Business. TIAS is the first business school in the Netherlands when it comes to Executive Education – Customised according to the Financial Times Ranking of 2016. It is the fifth consecutive year that TIAS has attained this number 1 position. The motto of the school is ‘Never Stop Asking’ and I remind myself of this every single day. Not only during lectures but also when finding a way to turn what I have learned into practice and business.

The TIAS CONNECT platform links alumni to current students and thanks to our director of alumni relationship, Gretchen van der Spek, I got the chance to contact our MBA alumni Herold Dongelmans. Herold has years of experience in the Floral Industry. As we are all aware, Holland is the world’s leading supplier of flowers, plants, and trees. The Dutch horticulture sector is a global trendsetter.

So Herold and I organized a Floral Business Trip for current TIAS MScBA students. The good news is that the Floral Market in South-East Asia is growing rapidly!

With Herold’s help, we visited Dümmen Orange, a Dutch company which represents a century-long legacy of floricultural excellence, providing the largest selection of superior flowers and plants on earth.

During the trip, we got to visit the lab, the green house and we observed the process of business in the Floral field. I would very much like to thank Jim as well. He has over seven years of experience in the Asia market of Dümmen Orange. He gave us a fantastic presentation about the company business and took TIAS students for a company tour. Furthermore, he provided us with a lot of practical knowledge and current business trends.

For me, TIAS is far more than a business school for professionals and future financial elites. TIAS opened up a brand-new window for me: I can combine my book knowledge with tasks in the real world. This, I believe, is the true meaning of learning about how to do business.

Thank you very much Herold Dongelmans, Dümmen Orange and Jim for providing us for yet another opportunity to put learning into practice!
