After graduating in 1996 at Tilburg University on a study into the effectiveness of a campaign designed to increase the sale of suspense novels (The Month of the Suspense Novel), dr. Stalpers worked for ten years as a market researcher for public libraries, publishers (Zwijsen) and booksellers (De Slegte). In October 2005 he defended his dissertation – a field study into the library use and reading behavior of pupils in the age of 13 to 17 – at the Utrecht University. In November 2006 he took up the position of lecturer at Tilburg University, where he has been responsible for courses like Marketing Communication, Business Research Methods, Marketing of Culture and Services Marketing and where he has supervised 50 bachelor and master theses each year.
