Introduction

Organizations are collecting more data than ever before, but many decisions are still only minimally data-driven. In the Data Driven Decision Making Master Module, you will learn how to use data, analytics, and AI to better substantiate strategic and operational choices. You will move from separate reports and dashboards to decision-making processes in which it is clear what information matters and how it reaches the right people at the right time.

You will explore the spectrum from descriptive to prescriptive analytics and what is needed to achieve this: data quality, governance, visualization, and explainable models. At the same time, you will examine the human side of decision-making—bias, noise, intuition, and pressure. This will enable you to develop a more structured, transparent way of making decisions, in which data has a fixed place alongside professional judgment and experience.

Participant profile

For professionals who are responsible for important decisions and who want to connect data, analytics, and AI more firmly to their decision-making.

You work in an organization where reports, dashboards, and analyses are abundant, but where decisions are often made based on experience, intuition, or time pressure. You see how difficult it is to determine which data is truly relevant, which models you can trust, and how to connect data initiatives to concrete decision-making moments in practice.

You are looking for a clear framework to organize decisions more systematically: which choices require more data-driven approaches, which forms of analytics are appropriate, and how do you set up processes, roles, and governance? At the same time, you want to be able to better discuss the balance between data, professional judgment, and responsibility with management, experts, and colleagues.

Why this program

What makes this master module unique?

  • Impact in 6 weeks: The mix of an online kick-off, three on-campus days, focused self-study, and working on your own case study will provide insights you can immediately apply in your work environment.
  • Academic & recognized: 4 ECTS as a microcredential with a digital badge; part of an accredited master's degree and stackable if you wish to continue your studies.
  • Top lecturers from both academia and practice: TIAS professors and experienced experts from the field combine analytical depth with realistic cases, so that theory and practice reinforce each other.
  • Blended & small-scale: intensive guidance and peer dialogue in a small group; what you explore online, you bring to life on-campus with cases and simulations.
  • Rich learning experience with peers: you will learn in a small group of like-minded professionals, share experiences, and enrich your case study with concrete practical insights.

What will the program bring you?

From data to decision-making power: insight into how to systematically link analytics to strategic and operational decisions that really matter.

Control over bias and noise: better insight into human and organizational distortions in decision-making and ways to structurally reduce their impact.

Transparent criteria and trade-offs: practical frameworks to make alternatives explicit, verifiable, and explainable to management and stakeholders.

Embedded data-driven decision-making: tools to embed data, models, and (where appropriate) automation in processes, governance, and culture, directly applicable to your own practice.

About this program

From data to clear choices in a complex context

In the Data Driven Decision Making Master Module, you will delve into the question of how organizations with more data actually make better decisions—instead of just producing extra reports and dashboards. You will examine how analyses only become valuable when they are linked to concrete decision areas, priorities, and trade-offs in strategy, operations, and customer processes.

You will work from the full spectrum of analytics: from descriptive and diagnostic analyses to predictive and prescriptive models, with a first step towards automated decision-making. In doing so, you will focus on data quality, governance, bias, and visualization, as well as the psychology of decision-making under uncertainty, noise, and time pressure. This will teach you how to connect data, models, and professional judgment.

Using cases and your own practice, you will map out the most important decision-making areas in your organization and assess where data-supported or automated decisions add value. You will translate this into design choices for decision-making processes, criteria, and decision agents. In this way, you will develop a concrete perspective on how to strengthen data-driven decision-making as a sustainable capability in your organization.

Your learning journey in brief

In six weeks, you will complete a compact learning journey – from the online kick-off to the final assignment. The exact mix of teaching methods varies per master module, but you can generally expect the following:

Online kick-off – You will meet the lecturers and fellow participants and receive an explanation of the program structure and the final assignment.

Three consecutive on-campus days – During three intensive days on campus, you will deepen your understanding of the theory, work on cases and assignments, and exchange experiences with other professionals in varied, stimulating sessions.

In-depth study between meetings – Between contact moments, you will continue to work independently with literature and assignments and apply insights to your own case.

Assessment of your own practice – You will complete the master module with an assessed assignment that directly relates to your work environment and learning objectives.

Microcredential & stackability

Upon completion, you will receive a TIAS certificate with a digital badge (microcredential, 4 ECTS). The ECTS credits earned are stackable within the following NVAO-accredited master's programs:
