Introduction
Data is strategic capital in every organization, but it is also vulnerable. Cyber threats, chain dependencies, and stricter European frameworks (such as NIS2, DORA, and the Cyber Resilience Act) make digital security a governance issue rather than just an IT theme.
In the Data and Information Security Master Module, you will learn to protect data and information structurally and use them responsibly. You will translate regulations and threat assessments into governance, measures, and incident response in your organization, strengthening resilience, compliance, and trust.
Participant profile
For professionals responsible for digital security, continuity, and data confidentiality – in roles related to information security, risk & compliance, IT and data management, or digital transformation.
You deal with audits, incidents, increasingly complex supply chains, and European frameworks like NIS2 and DORA, while measures are scattered across teams, systems, and suppliers. You are looking for a coherent framework to organize risks, controls, governance, and responsibilities, instead of reacting ad hoc to the crisis of the day.
You want more than just checklists: a solid foundation in security principles and a practical language to discuss risks, measures, and investments with management, business, IT, and suppliers. This will allow you to shape your policy, roadmap, and incident response with sound knowledge and demonstrably strengthen digital resilience, compliance, and trust.

About this program
Strategically managing digital security and resilience
In the Data and Information Security Master Module, you will delve into digital security as a strategic prerequisite for continuity and trust. You'll explore how legal and European frameworks (such as NIS2, DORA, and the Cyber Resilience Act), the current threat landscape, and supply chain dependencies converge into an integrated security approach.
You'll work with core principles from information security, risk management, and governance. You will explicitly examine themes such as data classification, identity & access management, third-party risk, cloud and supply chain risks, monitoring, and incident response. You will explore how to move from disparate measures and tools to a consistent framework of policies, controls, processes, and roles that aligns with the nature and risk appetite of your organization.
You will apply these insights directly to your own practice or client environment. Using case studies, you will analyze vulnerabilities, current measures, and responsibilities, and develop improvement options for governance, the roadmap, and exercises (for example, through crisis simulations). This way, you will build an approach where security is not just an IT issue, but a shared responsibility across management, business, and operations.
Your learning journey in brief
In six weeks, you will complete a compact learning journey – from online start to final assignment. The precise mix of learning methods varies per master's module, but you can generally expect the following:
Online start – You will meet your instructors and fellow participants and receive an explanation of the program structure and the final assignment.
Three consecutive on-campus days – During three intensive days on campus, you will deepen your theoretical knowledge, work on cases and assignments, and share experiences with other professionals in varied, engaging sessions.
Deepening between meetings – Between contact sessions, you will continue to work independently with literature and assignments and apply your insights to your own case.
Assessment based on your own practice – You will complete the master's module with a graded assignment that directly aligns with your work environment and learning objectives.
Microcredential & stackability
Upon completion, you will receive a TIAS certificate with a digital badge (microcredential, 4 ECTS). The earned ECTS are stackable within the NVAO-accredited Executive Master in Information Management and Digital Transformations (MIMDT).
