Introduction

Operational processes are under pressure. Markets are unpredictable, customer expectations are rising, and supply chains are becoming more volatile. Those who still rely on "the way we've always done it" are stuck with long wait times, firefighting, and high costs. Now, more than ever, well-thought-out operations make the difference between strategic ambitions on paper and performance in practice.

In the Operations Management Master Module, you will delve into the design and management of operational processes. You will explore how strategy translates into choices about capacity, lead times, variability, service levels, and inventory. Using concepts from factory physics and practical planning and inventory models, you will learn to systematically analyze and improve production, service, and logistics processes.

You will apply these insights directly to realistic cases and your own work environment. This way, you will develop a clear understanding of how operational decisions impact lead times, customer service, costs, and flexibility, and you will enhance your ability to design processes that are efficient, agile, and robust.

Participant profile

For professionals responsible for designing and improving operational processes in production, logistics, or service environments.

You work with schedules, capacity, inventory, and lead times, but sometimes lack a coherent framework. You want to better understand why processes behave as they do, where waiting times, disruptions, or overloads arise, and how to make sound decisions about buffers, staffing, and layout.

You are looking for a solid analytical foundation and practical models to systematically analyze and improve operations. You want to be able to translate strategy into process design, put out fewer ad-hoc fires, and make more decisions based on data and insights into variability, instead of just experience or gut feeling.

About this program

From strategy to management of operational processes

In the Operations Management Master Module, you will delve into the design and management of operational processes. Organizations face fluctuating demand, pressure on delivery times, and limited capacity. Without well-thought-out operations, this quickly leads to queues, firefighting, and high costs. In this module, you will explore how to design processes so that they truly contribute to your strategic goals.

You will explore how strategy translates into choices about process design, capacity, lead time, variability, service levels, and inventory. Using concepts from factory physics and practical planning and inventory models, you will systematically analyze production, service, and logistics processes.

You will apply the insights directly to realistic cases and your own work environment. This way, you will develop a clear understanding of how operational decisions impact lead time, customer service, costs, and flexibility, and you will expand your ability to design and manage processes that are efficient, agile, and robust.

Your learning journey in brief

In 6 weeks, you will complete a compact learning journey – from online start to final assignment. The precise mix of teaching methods varies per master module, but you can generally expect the following:
