Introduction
Financial figures appear objective, but behind every report lie choices about what you measure, how you allocate, and what incentives you build in. In many organizations, systems for cost allocation, internal settlement, and KPIs gradually evolve into a complex control mechanism, with a major impact on behavior, collaboration, and performance.
In the Financial Performance Management Master Module, you will examine financial information as a powerful, but not neutral, management tool. You will explore how cost allocation, transfer pricing, working capital management, and performance indicators influence the choices made by managers and teams, from pricing and investments to customer focus and cross-functional collaboration. In doing so, you will look not only at the logic of the calculations, but also at their behavioral and organizational effects.
You will work with robust theory, practical cases, and concrete calculation assignments that are directly relevant to your own organization. By analyzing existing financial structures and designing alternatives, you will develop a keener insight into the tension between cost control, remuneration, collaboration, and long-term value creation. In this way, you will grow into a financial sparring partner who not only reports on performance but also actively contributes to fair, transparent, and strategically thought-out control mechanisms.
Participant profile
For professionals responsible for measuring, analyzing, and managing financial performance.
You work in an organization where performance management is central—in a for-profit or non-profit context, for example in retail, government, e-commerce, mobility, technology, digital platforms, consultancy, or the creative sector. You see the impact of cost allocation, transfer pricing, KPIs, and remuneration structures on a daily basis, but you also notice that these do not always result in the desired behavior or the right decisions.
You want to gain more control over the behavioral effects of financial control mechanisms and are looking for a solid conceptual framework to recognize short-term control, misguided incentives, and suboptimal KPIs. At the same time, you are looking for practical tools to improve existing systems, redesign performance measurements and remuneration, and thus grow into a strategic sparring partner for the board and management.

About this program
Focusing on behavior, insight, and sustainable value
In the Financial Performance Management Master Module, you will delve into how financial structures influence behavior, collaboration, and performance. You will examine management control systems, cost allocation (such as Activity-Based Costing), transfer pricing, working capital, and performance indicators, and see how choices in these systems affect prices, investments, customer focus, and departmental interests. You will look beyond the logic of the figures and analyze how control mechanisms affect people, teams, and the organization as a whole.
This module brings together finance, strategy, and organizational behavior. You will learn to diagnose existing control mechanisms, recognize tensions between cost control, remuneration, collaboration, and long-term value creation, and design alternatives that are more transparent, fairer, and strategically more effective. Using robust theory, practical cases, and calculation assignments, you will work on issues from your own organization, so that you approach financial performance not only as a calculation, but as a strategic and social design issue—and grow into a strong discussion partner for management and business.
