Thinking in terms of options is valuable

In this study, Lars Paantjens explores the applications of realistic options within a public private partnership (PPP) of an area-specific development. Two ways of applying realistic options are described: as a tradeable product and as strategic risk management.
Has exploratory research yielded an understanding of why realistic options have not (yet) been applied in practice? Despite the fact that practice is not yet sufficiently familiar with realistic options, this research does indicate that the application of such options is indeed valuable. The first logical step involves implementing the application option of strategic risk management in order to structure the area development process further. This compels public and private parties at an early stage to (jointly) consider possible events in an area development process.
