Strategic portfolio management in the Municipality of Maastricht

The Municipality of Maastricht has set itself the goal of implementing strategic portfolio management. This is partly intended to ensure that municipal property continues to contribute to the achievement of policy objectives. At the same time, it is also expected that it will lead to improved use by increasing productivity, reducing costs and making contributions to social and other returns.

The implementation of a real-estate portfolio is also considered necessary in order to enable strategic management of the urban development formulated in the Spatial Development Strategy and the 2012 Framework Document on Property and Real-Estate Policy.

In her final project, Marjolein Gijselaers has investigated a model for strategic portfolio management that clarifies the contributions of real estate to municipal objectives. In this video interview, Marjolein reveals how she succeeded in this respect and what she accomplished with the model in the Municipality of Maastricht.
