Business school for a new generation of managers

May 15, 2014 | 2 min read

A reset of the economic- and financial landscape, changing roles for the government, digitalization and globalization of knowledge, new challenges for organizations, their leaders and employees gave cause for a repositioning of TIAS business school. Organizations, executives, managers and professionals are searching for new visions, responsibilities, co-operations, knowledge and skills. TIAS wants to anticipate upon this with new programs, educational methods and new applied technology.

Repositioning

According to Prof. Kees Koedijk, Dean and Director of TIAS, organizations are focusing more and more on business with a purpose: “in addition to the core business metrics and goals, the focus is shifting more and more often to business ethics and social relevance. Economic growth and profit go hand in hand with social progress. The business community, government authorities and knowledge institutions will have to work together more closely. It was partly due to this new context that we decided to change our name to TIAS School for Business and Society.” TIAS is the business school of the Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology and was formerly known as TiasNimbas Business School.

During the past year, the repositioning has led to new research programs, educational programs and co-operations with government authorities and the business community. Applied research is conducted in so-called LABs. These are open platforms where scientists of TIAS work together with partners from the business community and government authorities. With partners such as the BZW (Brabant-Zeeland Employers' Association) and Brainport Development Company in Eindhoven, for example, jointly created programs are offered to members. New programs, such as Crafting a Digital and Social Strategy of Corporation administrator, New Style (Corporatiebestuurder Nieuwe Stijl), for example, anticipate the needs of a new generation of organizations/companies and their managers. TIAS also wants to see its returns in special made-to-measure programs for companies/institutions increase this year.

Internationalization with China as spearhead

The new generation of managers and students is shifting its focus more and more to an international level and also has a need for international training programs. TIAS business school welcomes participants from 25 different countries every year.

Prof. Kees Koedijk: “China  is an important spearhead for TIAS in that respect. Because more and more Chinese companies are venturing onto the global market, these professionals and organizations require knowledge of these new markets and they need the skills to successfully operate in these markets. TIAS has the ambition to build a bridge between China and the rest of the international business world.”

TIAS already had a branch in Asia in Taipei;  the business school recently realized 2 new joint ventures in China. One in Shanghai with the Overseas  Education College of the Shanghai Jiatong University. Together, they offer a Chinese Executive MBA. The most recent joint venture was concluded with the School of Finance of the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in Beijing last spring. TIAS offers a Finance MBA program in co-operation with CUFE.
