Randstad — Leaders who align with strategy

In 12 months, Randstad and TIAS (with INSEAD) build a global senior-leadership program that delivers direct business impact and strengthens the talent pipeline.

Background

Randstad has partnered with TIAS on leadership development for over two decades—from Fast Forward and the Future Executive Program (FEP) to the Senior Executive Program (SEP).

The Senior Executive Program is a global 12-month program, set up by the Frits Goldschmeding Academy in partnership with TIAS and INSEAD. Running since the late 1990s/early 2000s, it forms—together with the Future Executive Program—a continuous pipeline for international leaders.

Need

Randstad wants a sustainable, scalable leadership pipeline that keeps pace with strategic shifts (digital-first, commercial acceleration, culture & leadership).

Leaders should not only grow personally; they must also deliver tangible results on current business priorities—and cascade those insights across their organizations.

Brief

Design and facilitate a 12-month learning journey for selected senior leaders where personal development, strategic thinking, and team-based business challenges come together.

TIAS leads on program design and academic content; INSEAD broadens the international perspective. Goal: immediate business impact and a demonstrably stronger flow of talent into the next leadership levels.

Approach

The journey combines intensive modules on strategy, leadership, and organizational culture with coaching and challenge work on business cases sponsored by Randstad leaders. Each cohort spends the year developing high-potential interventions (e.g., sales enablement, commercial rhythm, innovation experiments), tests assumptions in practice, and presents decision-ready proposals to leadership.

The program is recalibrated annually with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure themes and learning outcomes align with the coming year’s strategic agenda.

Results

The combination of personal development and concrete challenge work delivers tangible business outcomes. Examples achieved through the Senior Executive Program include:

  • A gamification app that led to +3% market share in Spain and +2% in the Netherlands, plus +10% customers and placements in the Netherlands.

  • Another team generated $239,000 in additional revenue with no extra costs.

  • Across multiple cohorts, the promotion rate within 24 months is higher for SEP participants (31.5%) than for non-participants (19%).

  • Participant satisfaction averages around 9.2 (out of 10).
