Robert Breas is an expert in the field of data availability, interoperability, and standardization in healthcare IT, particularly in specialized medical care. Early in his career, he conducted research at Erasmus MC on healthcare processes and appropriate support through IT. He then worked for four years at Nictiz, where he was responsible for the introduction of SNOMED CT in the Netherlands and played a key role in developing the concept of "Unity of Language." He was also actively involved in the epSOS project, the first European initiative to lay the foundation for medical data exchange between EU countries.
Since 2012, Robert has been working at MedicalPHIT as a consultant, trainer, and manager, focusing on topics such as data availability, imaging availability, MedMij, standardization, and artificial intelligence. He works both at the organizational level within healthcare institutions and in regional and national projects, including population screenings.
He also regularly gives guest lectures in healthcare IT-related programs at universities and colleges. In addition, since 2023, he has been a board member at IHE Netherlands (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise). Together with other standardization organizations such as HL7, IHE works to improve healthcare interoperability and implement international standards.
Robert holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Management and in Informatics & Economics.
