Trefor McElroy graduated with an honours degree in economics from the University of Manchester. He then completed a postgraduate certificate in education from the University of Bristol. After three years teaching at a technical high school, he trained and qualified as an accountant whilst working in the finance department at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London. At this point he moved into academic life by joining Ealing College of Higher Education (now Thames Valley University). He continued his studies by obtaining the MSc in Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics.
For ten years Trefor McElroy was the Associate Dean Accounting and Finance in the Business School at Bournemouth University. At the university he taught on many academic and professional programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and post-experience levels. As a senior Academic Manager and Head of Department for many years, McElroy has extensive experience of programme review, validation, and quality management. He continues to teach and supervise masters dissertations at Bournemouth.
At TIAS and Eindhoven University of Technology, Trefor McElroy teaches Financial Management on the MSc Programmes and on the Part-Time MBA programmes.
His teaching specialisms are in the field of corporate financial management. He has particular interests in the exploitation and valuation of intellectual property, and performance measurement and economic value added. He has written open learning manuals for commercial organisations, the Open College and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and is currently writing a web-based course in finance for managers of a large UK company. He prepared an EU-funded open-learning programme on Intellectual Property for small and medium enterprises with academics from universities throughout western Europe.
As well as his continuing involvement with university education, McElroy also delivers corporate training in accounting and finance to managers.
